NingiukuluTeevee (Canadian, Inuit, b. 1963) Colourful Wild Owl, 2013

Inspired by tales she heard as a child and largely self-taught, Inuit artist Ningiukulu Teevee brings the animals and legends of the far north to life. Her prints first appeared in the annual Cape Dorset collection of 2004, and since then she has developed into a prolific, versatile artist, exploring the traditions of the past with a contemporary touch. She features patterns in many of her drawings, examining the relationship between abstraction and representation.
